Sriharikota
Sriharikota, located on the east coast of India, is the home of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and its launch facility, Sriharikota Launch Complex (SLOC). The SLOC consists of a 2-km-long launch strip, a 3 km fortified firing range, and an adjoining 10 km² area for processing and launching payloads into polar orbit. In December 2013, ISRO successfully launched the country’s first indigenousGeosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV), dubbed”Aksat-2″, from SLOC.
Tangail
House Indian Satellite Launching Station is situated in Tangail, Bangladesh. It is a launch site for Indian satellites. The station was inaugurated on 17 January 1998 by then Prime Minister of India, H. D. Deve Gowda.
Kodaikanal
Kodaikanal, a town in the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu, is home to the Indian Space Research Organisation’s (ISRO) launch centre—the Sriharikota Range. The site has been used for launches of satellites and rockets since 1967. The first rocket launch from the site was the Agni I rocket, which carried India’s first satellite, Aryabhata, into orbit.
The Sriharikota Range has played an important role in India’s space programme. It has helped pioneer several technologies and equipment used by ISRO today, such as liquid propulsion systems and cryogenic engines. ISRO also uses the range to test new concepts and technologies before putting them into wider use.
Today, Kodaikanal is home to several companies that work with ISRO. These companies provide hardware and services needed for launches from Sriharikota Range. The town also benefits from tourism associated with space activities.
Avanti
Avanti is an Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) launch site for geosynchronous satellites. It is located in the northeastern state of Tamil Nadu, at Sriharikota.
Construction on Avanti began in 1988 and it was inaugurated by then-prime minister Rajiv Gandhi on 25 July 1992. The site consists of a single launch pad capable of launching vehicles up to 3,000 tonnes into orbit. Avanti has been used to launch all ISRO series launches except for the Mangalyaan mission which used the Kourou facility in French Guiana. As of 2016, Avanti has launched 60 satellites into orbit, including 31 Indian satellites and 29 foreign satellites.
Devi Talabhumi
Devi Talabhumi is an Indian Space Research Organisation satellite launch station. It is located in the eastern part of the country, near Sriharikota. The first launch from this facility took place on April 18, 2009, when a PSLV-C22 rocket carrying the GSAT-7 satellite was lifted off.
