    As of now, the population of Mars is zero. But that could all change in the future as we continue to explore and colonize the red planet.     The History of Mars

    The planet Mars has been known by humanity since ancient times. The first recorded observation of Mars was by the Babylonians in the 7th century BCE. They named the planet after their god of war, Ares. The ancient Greeks also associated the planet with Ares, as well as with their god of agriculture, Hermes. The Romans later adopted these associations and named the planet after their own god of war, Mars.

    Mars was long thought to be a dead world. In 1877, however, astronomer Giovanni Schiaparelli observed what he believed to be canali on the Martian surface. This sparked a wave of public interest in Mars and its potential for life. In 1896, H.G. Wells published his novel “The War of the Worlds”, which further popularized the idea that Mars could be inhabited by intelligent aliens.

    It wasn’t until 1965 that humans finally got a close-up view of Mars when NASA’s Mariner 4 spacecraft made flyby of the planet. Mariner 4’s images showed a barren and cratered world, very different from what had been imagined by earlier generations.

    Since then, we have sent numerous robotic probes to Mars (including rovers like Opportunity and Curiosity), and there are currently plans for human exploration of the Red Planet in the 2030s. So far, however, no evidence has been found for any form of current or past life on Mars.

    The Geography of Mars

    Mars is the fourth planet from the Sun and the second-smallest planet in the Solar System, after Mercury. In English, Mars carries a name of the Roman god of war, and is often referred to as the “Red Planet” because of its reddish appearance. The Geography of Mars:

    Mars has a diameter of 4,220 miles (6,790 kilometers), making it about half the size of Earth. It has an average distance from the Sun of 141 million miles (227 million kilometers). A day on Mars lasts 24 hours 37 minutes and 22 seconds. A year on Mars takes 687 Earth days. The atmosphere on Mars is much thinner than Earth’s atmosphere. The surface gravity on Mars is only 38% of the surface gravity on Earth. This means that you would weigh only 38% of your weight on Earth on Mars. The temperature on Mars can vary widely depending from location to location and from season to season, but it generally ranges from about -225 degrees Fahrenheit (-153 degrees Celsius) at the poles to 70 degrees Fahrenheit (21 degrees Celsius) near the equator.

    The surface of Mars is rocky and dusty with mountains, valleys, plains and craters. There are also areas where there are dried up riverbeds called outflow channels which suggest that at one time there may have been liquid water on the Martian surface. Currently, there is no liquid water present on the Martian surface due to the extremely cold temperatures found there.

    The Climate of Mars

    First, it is important to understand the climate of Mars. The planet has a very thin atmosphere that consists mostly of carbon dioxide. It also has a lot of dust in its atmosphere. These two factors make the planet’s surface very cold. The average temperature on Mars is about -60 degrees Celsius.

    The planet’s atmosphere also causes the temperature to fluctuate greatly. During the day, the temperature can rise to about 20 degrees Celsius, but at night it can fall to -140 degrees Celsius. This large range in temperature is due to the planet’s lack of an ozone layer. Without this layer, there is nothing to protect the planet from the Sun’s ultraviolet radiation.

    The environment on Mars is also much drier than Earth’s environment. There is very little water vapor in the atmosphere and what does exist quickly evaporates due to the low pressure and high temperatures. This lack of water vapor means that there is very little cloud cover on Mars.

    Finally, Mars has a lower gravity than Earth. This lower gravity makes it easier for dust particles to be lifted into the atmosphere where they can reflect sunlight and cause Martian dust storms

    The Population of Mars

    As of July 2018, the population of Mars is zero. However, there are plans to send humans to Mars in the 2030s. The first manned mission to Mars is expected to carry a crew of four astronauts.

    With the current technology, it is not possible for humans to live on Mars permanently. However, there are plans to build habitats on Mars that would allow for long-term stays. The first human settlement on Mars is expected to be established in 2040.

    The population of Mars is expected to grow slowly over time as more and more people travel to and settle on the planet. It is estimated that there could be as many as 10,000 people living on Mars by 2050.

    How to live on Mars

    In order to live on Mars, humans would need to establish a permanent settlement on the planet. This would require terraforming the Martian surface to make it habitable for human life. The process of terraforming Mars is a long and difficult one, but it is possible. There are many challenges that must be overcome in order to make Mars habitable for humans, but it is definitely possible. With enough time and effort, humans could definitely make Mars their new home.
